Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO)
Straight Oil is generally referred to the use of a pure or near-pure vegetable oil for combustion in a SVO fitted diesel vehicle. Alternative to using biodiesel, either pure or B20/50/80 mixtures, this SVO process requires a fairly clean source of spent/used vegetable oil. Filtering down to 5 microns, requiring a seperate tank and preheating the oil/fuel to 170 degs F before entering and while in the fuel system lines, can cost from 350-1000 USD to retrofit a vehicle. SVO allows you to avoid the costs of using chemicals, the time, the knowledge, and the cost of materials. SVO is much simpler than biodiesel and will usually pay for itself within 12 months of the retrofit on a average driven vehicle, 15 mpg, and 1200 miles per month.
