Wood gas is the mixture of gases that results when wood or other organic materials are heated in an environment with little or no oxygen Wood gas mainly consists of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane. It is flammable because of the carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane content. it is also known as producer gas

Wood gas was used to power cars with ordinary internal combustion engines by means a wood gasifier attached to the vehicle or pulled on a trailer in several European countries during WW2.

A byproduct of making wood gas is charcoal that can be used for cooking. also wood gas itself can be used for cooking, there has been allot of research done on developing wood gas stoves for more efficient cooking for 3rd world areas were wood is scarce
